Unlocking Victory: Mastering Link-Up in UFL

by Elena Misko

Hello, UFL players!

Today, we’re diving into Link-Up — a powerful feature that brings an exciting dynamic to team-building. Think of it like chemistry between your players that boosts their overall performance. Let’s break it down and see how Link-Up can give your squad the edge it needs to dominate the competition!

What is the Link-Up mechanic?

Link-Up helps your team play better when players share certain traits. Each player card has three core attributes:

  1. Play Style — a fictional designation that replaces club affiliation, featuring eight unique identifiers (with more to come).

  2. Nationality — shown as a flag icon.

  3. League — another fictional parameter, combining country and division (e.g., Spanish 1 for the top division, Spanish 2 for the second), represented by an icon.

UFL builds on these traits to give you a fresh, intuitive way to shape your team. The system provides instant rewards for a well-constructed line-up, brings variety through random card combinations, and avoids repetition. It’s designed to make gameplay more engaging, strategic, and fun — turning squad-building into an enjoyable experience. This unique approach makes every match interesting.

How to use Link-Up in your squad?

Using Link-Up is simple, and it starts on the line-up screen before your match. Place your cards on the field where they connect with nearby positions using a setup of visible lines. Colored lines highlight active links between players, with dots showing how many connections are in place. A dashed line indicates no link — either because there’s no match in Play Style, Nationality, or League, because the player’s card is a base card (which doesn’t participate in Link-Up), or because the player is out of position.

Each position can connect to up to five others, but always at least two, ensuring the team stays linked from attack to defense. Legend cards have a universal Play Style that adds 2 Link-Up Points to connected players in the line-up, benefiting the entire team.

Arranging your team this way unlocks bonuses that boost players’ base characteristics — depending on their Play Style. It’s all handled before kick-off, giving you time to set up your squad and watch the connections form!

Your Link-Up score, visible on the team management screen, ranges from 0 to 33 and adds up all connections in your starting line-up. A higher score means a stronger team, so experiment to find the perfect fit!

You’re now ready to put Link-Up to the test as soon as it’s live! Try it right away and enjoy the rewards of a well-connected squad.
